This refers to a softcover book binding method that makes use of Polyurethane Reactive (PUR) adhesive.
PUR Binding is a form of perfect binding, where the pages and cover are glued together at the spine and the other three sides of the book are trimmed as needed to give them clean “perfect” edges.
Polyurethane Reactive (PUR) is the most durable book binding glue available. It is far superior to Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) or any other adhesives used in traditional perfect binding.

Graphic Design
Prices depend on many variants, but we can be sure you are getting a great value for your design project.
Design jobs are charged by the hour. Typical graphic design projects are R600/hr. or a flat R400 for a small to med setup job. We also bill in 30min increments for setup work, If you have small changes to a pre-existing file that takes 15-30 min for a quick setup, we will charge the min amount of R295. You won’t find that with some of our competitors. We encourage prospective clients to compare The Brand Affect with agencies
producing the same level of work.
During our initial logo meeting, we first begin by discussing the client’s ideas, target market, and uses for the logo. We then ask for samples of existing logos that the client likes or dislikes to get an idea of their taste. Sometimes the client already has a design concept in mind. Other times, they have no idea what they want. Either way, we make sure we have collected enough information before we begin. Our logo design service is very straight forward. If you’d like to see extra concepts after our initial three ideas or if you need a couple logo designs for multiple companies our service can be priced according to your needs.
A finished project is yours upon receipt of final payment. At your request, we will supply the electronic files to you on CD, dropbox, or through e-mail. We also keep a copy of your project on file for later updates or should you lose your copy.
Once payment is received, normal turnaround for logo design is 7 days. We present the logos to the client at color stage, and wait for final approval before we save out all the files for you. The client logo files are their artwork and we are up front about this part of the process. We do save your work in case you lose the files or need them sent again.
As a non-agency, we listen to our clients from the start. We encourage the client to bring in any samples, color combinations/swatches, and ideas they may have to help us get an idea of style before starting to work with new clients. During the design process, the client is asked to approve certain colors and fonts before work continues. Once the design project is ready for print we will submit a final proof for the client’s approval before submitting to production. Once a job is in production, the job cannot be cancelled. At the conclusion of a project, the client may request the artwork in various formats if payment was made for design services.
Bleed is required to ensure edge-to-edge colour on your final product. Any background colours or images need to expand your final size by 3mm on all sides to allow for any movement on the guillotine. Please call our office one of designers will quide you on bleed process.
We prefer to receive files in print ready PDF format, as this speeds up the production process, but we can also accept PSD, AI File format. If you are unable to supply your files in pdf format, we can convert it for you, please call us to discuss. Please you can email any files under 15MB to petern@houseofprint.co.za . If they are over 10mb then please send via any file transfer site, we prefer www.wetransfer.com as this is free to use or dropbox. Alternatively you can burn them to a CD or copy onto a usb drive and send them to us.
CMYK is also referred to as ‘Full colour printing’ or ‘Four colour printing’ and is the most commonly used printing technique. The system uses 4 colour primary colours as its base – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK – with various combinations of these 4 it is possible to produce virtually every colour you can imagine.
Pantone colours refer to the Pantone Matching System (PMS), a color matching system used by the printing industry whereby printing colors are identified by a unique name or number (as opposed to just a visual reference). This helps make sure that colors turn out the same from system to system, and print run to print run.
A proof is a once-off copy of your printed document used for visual inspection to ensure that the layout and colors of your document are exactly how they are intended to be. A proof is made prior to sending the document to the press for final printing.
Typically, we will produce a proof that will be sent to you online in PDF format or on printed paper, which can be either viewed in our store or delivered to you in person. For multiple-color jobs, we can produce a proof on our output device to show you how the different colours will appear on the final product. Your approval on the final proof is the best assurance you have that every aspect of our work and your own is correct, and that everything reads and appears the way you intended. Mistakes can and sometimes do happen. It benefits everyone if errors are caught in the proofing process rather than after the job is completed and delivered.
Digital printing allows a job to go directly from a computer file, straight to the machine, eliminating the need for films. This makes digital printing very quick to produce, which is why we offer a 24 hour turnaround on
all of our digital non folded work. If you order by noon of any weekday, we will produce your job and dispatch it that afternoon for next day delivery. Depends on quantity orderd.
Alternatively, lithographic or ‘litho’ printing is a process where a plate is specially coated so ink only sticks to dry areas of the plate. The inked image is then transferred, or offset on to a rubber blanket, which then makes an impression on the paper
Due to varying technologies used in printing, there is no guarantee that your completed document will match your printed sample. This is due mainly to the varying results from different output devices such as inkjet, bubblejet and laser printers and offset press prints. Even from one commercial printing firm to another, there can be wide differences in results. In an effort to match the color you are looking for, we require that a proof be approved of color printed documents before printing the complete job.
In short, printers and monitors produce colors in very different ways.
Monitors use the RGB (red, green, blue) color model, which usually supports a wider spectrum of colors. Printers use the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) color model, which can reproduce most—but not all—of the colors in the RGB color model. Depending on the equipment used, CMYK generally matches 85–90% of the colors in the RGB model. When a color is selected from the RGB model that is out of the range of the CMYK model, the application chooses what it thinks is the closest color that will match. Programs like Adobe Photoshop will allow you to choose which color will be replaced. Others may not. When color is critical it is best to allow extra time test prints and color adjustments.
We are a full service shop and offer a wide range of products and services that include offset, digital and large format printing. To see a full listing and description of what we can offer you, please see the Products and Services area in the Customer Service Section of our website.
No. RGB are not standard printing colours.
300 dpi tiffs are recommended for most page layout programs to produce the highest quality printing. Remember to add bleed area is your image is to bleed off the edges of your page.
All Native files and Press Ready PDFs. Native means it is the cleanest form of that application’s file, i.e., not Quark EPS or PostScript files. We can accept any number of page layout files; we are not limited by our equipment or software, but we do prefer Adobe Creative Suite files (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
